John's story |
|
My name is John Herbert
It was back on Sunday 15th May 1988 that my daughter Louise came up and sat on the end of the bed and said "Dad there is a Christian Gospel Group from Zimbabwe coming to the Leisure Centre on Friday night, would you like to come along and hear them? " Any way I said to Louise and Paula that I would go along.....

Friday the 20th came and I went along as a favour - nothing else. Little did I know that the invitation was to be the most important and special invitation I received in my life. It was an invitation to meet Jesus!. After the concert was finished my wife Libby introduced me to one of the group. He asked me if I was a Christian, I answered no I was not, then he asked me if I wanted to become a Christian? I said I didn't know if I was ready. He asked if he could pary for me, I said yes.
That night was to be the night that changed my life fore ver, I had a peace in my heart that I have never ever experienced before. Libby and the girls bought me a Bible. I discovered a scripture in Isaiah chapter 65 which said......."I have revealed myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me." This is just what had happened to me..... I wasn't looking for God, but I;m so glad He was looking for me....He is a God who confirms His Word with signs following.
Four years later in 9th June 1992 was to become the darkest day in the lives of young John, Libby and myself. The ground from underneath me gave way as news came that my two daughters Louise and Paula had both been killed in a car crash. I can only say without God in my life, I couldn't have made it through the most difficult and desperate times in our lives. God hasn't left us comfortless, He has sustained and preserved our lives.
I take great encouragement from the Holy Bible it is beneficial and so precious to me. God's Word is an ever present help in times of trouble. His Word becomes so real to us. Psalm 119:49,50: "Remember your word to your servant. For you have given me hope, my comfort in suffering is this, your promise preserves my life."
The Christian life is not easy, but it is fulfilling. If you don't know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savious, do not put off - This is the day of God's salvation.
